About the Workshop: The main goal of the workshop is to familiarize the participants with the advances in Gene cloning techniques.

Workshop Topics: All Two days will involve lectures and hands on training sessions about Gene and TA cloning. Different topics for example, Gene cloning, restriction and digestion, Update on Cloning strategies, Hands-on experience on TA cloning will be covered in the workshop.

Venue: Department of Genetic Engineering, School of Bioengineering, SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai-603203

Workshop Timing: 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Registration Details: The registration fee for the workshop is Rs.250/- per participant.

Registration fee includes:

• Participation in the workshop
• Tea/coffee breaks for all two days of the workshop
• Certificate for successful completion.
• Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. Participants will have to arrange for their own accommodation.

Eligibility: Life science Students (Under and Post graduates) B.Sc, B.tech, M.Sc from Universities, Engineering Colleges and Arts and science colleges.

Number of Participants: The total number of participants is limited to 30 on first cum first basis.

Day-1 (28-4-2014/9:30 am to 5:00 pm)

9:30-10:00-Registration
10:00-10:30-Welcoming the participants by Head of the Department
10:30-12:30- PCR/Cloning methodology presentation
12:30-1:30-Agarose gel electrophorosis/Lunch Break
1:30-2:30- Gel purification (Gel elution)
2:30-5:00-Ligation and Transformation

Day-2 (29-4-2014/9:30 am to 3:00 pm)

9:30-12:30-Colony PCR/Participants will be taken to department lab visits
12:30-1:30-Agarose gel electrophoresis/Lunch Break
2:00-3:00-Valedictory function (Distribution of certificates)
